Grading System Grades in my classes are weighted, so that a student's grade is a more accurate reflection of "what they know" and "can do".
Assessments: 45% (Tests, Quizzes, Projects)
One aspect of my class that can confuse some parents and students is "due dates" on Canvas. These are "pacing" guidelines to help parents/students know where they should be approximately. All students work at different paces and some have different paths, therefore these are not hard deadlines with consequences. There will be some deadlines such as a module closing or a quarter grade check. These can affect a student's grade.
Redo's and Mastery Learning
School is about growth and learning, therefore students can always improve their work to demonstrate their greater understanding or ability. Therefore, any assignment can be redone while they are working on the module for full credit. I encourage my students to read their feedback and rubrics, then use it to go back and revisit their resources, work with the material and be able to show improvement. Their grade is not stagnant. However, if they have completed a module those assignments are no longer available for improvement. This class is not about "getting it done" its about growing as students and people. I want them to feel pride in what they have learned and how they demonstrate that learning.
